Demonstratie WiMax 802.16e la Timisoara

Compania Alcatel-Lucent a organizat, la Timişoara, „WiMAX @Work”, in cadrul caruia s-a realizat prima demonstratie WiMax 802.16e din Europa de Sud Est, la doar două săptămâni după premiera mondială de WiMAX mobil.
Managerul Alcatel-Lucent pentru Europa de SE, Dan Bedros, a demonstrat cu această ocazie noile aplicaţii şi servicii ce pot fi oferite peste o infrastructură de acces de bandă largă WiMAX mobilă - începând cu servicii de voce, fixe sau mobile şi până la transmisiuni video în direct pentru fluidizarea traficului auto.
Standardul 802.16e-2005 (sau Rev-e - Interoperabilitate Globală pentru Acces prin Microunde) permite conectarea mobilă la internet de viteze mari şi este considerat de reprezentanţii Alcatel-Lucent drept următoarea mare premieră după lansarea sistemului GSM de comunicaţii mobile.
În testele de la Timişoara, a fost atinsă o viteză de download de 5 Mbps şi una de upload de 2Mbps, dar maximul care poate fi atins este de 75 de Mbps, au precizat reprezentanţii companiei. O condiţie pentru impunerea tehnologei este dată de existenţa terminalelor, telefoane mobile Wimax sau modem-uri pentru laptop.
