Hardware needed to run ZeroShell
Zeroshell works on x86 and x86_64 box with at least a Pentium 233MHz, 96MB RAM, an ATA CDROM reader or an ATA Compact Flash (CF) adapter if you prefer to boot from this type of medium (for example on embedded devices).
Every VGA graphic card and RS232 serial port are supported.
The database in which data and configuration are saved can be stored on IDE, SATA, SCSI and USB storage devices.
All the PCI, USB and PCMCIA network cards supported by the Linux kernel are supported by ZeroShell too and should work correctly. For a few Network adapters, Linux has not support for VLAN 802.1q. In this case ethernet packets greater than 1496 bytes are not forwarded on the VLANs.
Hardware tested and known to work
Wireless Router Application Platform (WRAP)These nice and cheap small computers for network appliances need of a custom CompactFlash image.
ALIX.2* with 256MB of RAM, AMD Geode LX CPU 500MHz processor and MiniPCI expansion slotsALIX systems, with their dimension (15cm x 15cm), low cost and power requirement are convenient platforms to install Zeroshell. The ALIX architecture is very similar to the WRAP architecture (but much faster) and hence you need of the WRAP CompactFlash image to boot Zeroshell that you can find in the download section.
Mini-ITX EPIA-SP8000E
Mini-ITX EPIA-SP13000These are two small (17x17cm) motherboards produced by VIA Technologies, Inc. with VIA Nehemiah 800/1300Mhz CPU, video card, network card, sound card, USB, SATA and IDE controllers integrated.ZeroShell is developed on Mini-ITX EPIA-SP8000E system.
Soekris Net4801 produced by Soekris Engineering and based on an up to 266 Mhz CPU. This small and lower-power computer has 3 Fast Ethernet ports (VLAN 802.1q compliant) and is a good solution for small routers, transparent bridges, firewalls, VPN boxes, Captive Portals and other network appliances.
