Satelitii vor avea propria retea wireless pentru a putea comunica intre ei

Agentia pentru Cercetari Avansate de Aparare (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency - DARPA) nu se sfiieste sa cheltuie sume fabuloase pe proiecte care par putin prea ambitioase pentru vremea lor. Cel mai recent proiect al celor de la DARPA a fost constituit de investitia a 32 de milioane de dolari pentru dezvoltarea tehnologiei care sa permita creearea unei retele virtuale intre sateliti.
DARPA a anuntat saptamana trecuta ca a oferit deja contractele pentru prima faza a programului denumit “Future, Fast, Flexible, Fractionated, Free-Flying Spacecraft United by Information Exchange (System F6) program”. Contractele au fost acordate firmelor Boeing ($12,891,049), Lockheed Martin Space Systems ($5,762,781), Northrop Grumman Space & Mission Systems Corp ($6,159,866) si Orbital Sciences Corp ($13,648,758).
DARPA vrea sa demonstreze prin acest proiect ca satelitii de dimensiuni monolitice pot fi inlocuiti de grupuri de sateliti mai mici, lansati individual, interconectati printr-o retea wireless pe orbita.Prima faza a programului urmareste dezvoltarea de catre contractori, a unor tehnologii cheie care sa permita conexiunile wireless intre sateliti precum si sisteme care sa permita calcularea distributiva.Printre altele, contractorii mai dezvolta si sisteme care sa testeze fezabilitatea proiectului.
