Skyfire says its mobile browser makes the Web experience like on Apple's iPhone -- on Windows Mobile smartphones. Unveiled at DEMO 08, Skyfire says its mobile browser can even use Flash, Ajax or Java technologies thanks to pages reformatted by Skyfire's servers. Skyfire says the technology for Windows Mobile provides "real Web" support. In a development that makes clear the revolutionary impact of Apple's iPhone, a start-up company unveiled at the DEMO 08 conference a new mobile Web browser that may bring iPhone-like browsing to phones running Windows Mobile 5 and 6. Skyfire, currently in private beta, makes mobile browing "just like" using the Web on a PC, the company said, even if sites are built with Flash, Ajax or Java technologies. What's more, the company said, smartphone browsing isn't any slower than browsing on a computer. And just like on the iPhone, users can watch YouTube movies, interact with social networks and listen to streaming m...

The spate of YouTube players for Symbian and Windows Mobile as well as the new official Java client may leave owners of older, less capable mobiles feeling a bit left out. ByWiFi.com is a mobile web service that will convert YouTube and MetaCafe videos into the widely-used 3GP format. 3GP is playable by most 3G phones, and is optimised for download size and speed. You can either browse to the site directly using your phone’s browser (it’s text-only, so it shouldn’t tax even the stingiest data tariffs) and download directly to your phone, or use a desktop PC or Mac and copy the files manually. There may be some teething troubles - I wasn’t able to get any converted files to retain their soundtrack - but this is still a useful trick to get bigger video clips onto your handset. Even smartphone owners can take advantage of the faster download speed, providing they don’t mind the drop in picture quality.

Still can't get enough about the Nokia E51? Fear not, there are a number of good reviews: All About Symbian posted a well written and extensive overview. Equally thorough is the review by Smape , well worth reading. Eugenia has written another great piece about the Nokia E51 at OSNews . Mobile-review is as always also very detailed and complete in their coverage of the Nokia E51 . PC Pro posted a preview/review and so did CNet and ZDNet .

OK, I'm not a big fan of Yahoo! but I'm still interested in what they are doing on the mobile front. When I read about the announcement of Yahoo! Go 3.0 (Beta) with support for Widgets I naturally wanted to take it for a spin. I logged on to get.go.yahoo.com from my mobile browser on my Nokia E61i only to find out that Nokia E61i is not one of the supported devices for Yahoo! Go 3.0 Well, well. Perhaps other Eseries devices are supported. I tried my Nokia E51 and to my pleasant surprise there was no message about E51 not being supported. On the other hand, there was no message about Yahoo! Go 3.0. Not letting that stop me I go ahead and click download only to see an error message saying that my phone is not supported… Hmm, just one screen earlier Nokia E51 was listed as a supported device. Yahoo! stop teasing me and make Yahoo! Go 3.0 available for Eseries. Until then there is always Yahoo! Go 2.0 which I covered here . Update: A kind reader pointed out that Yahoo! Go 3.0 suppo...

Looks legit enough, doesn't it? The supposed successor to the E61i has broken cover via this shot of the device -- in prototype "EXX" form, no less -- being proudly displayed in some lucky son of a gun's hand. The "E" moniker designates a Nokia smartphone with a business slant, of course, and thanks to a lovely QWERTY board, the E71 seems to be no exception; specs on the E51 -ish device are said to be pretty much in line with what we'd expect for a circa-2008 piece, including HSDPA, WiFi, GPS, and a 3.2 megapixel primary cam with a secondary up front for video calling. As for North American 3G, well... as usual, we can only hope. We're not sure whether this thing will break officially here at CES, but if it does, you'll be the first to know.

Asus M930, announced more than a month ago to be a tough competitor for the Nokia E90 Communicator , will be commercially available at the beginning of 2008, for a price that is unknown yet. Several real photos of the handset recently appeared on the Internet, showing us that the handset is really capable of standing beside Nokia E90. Presented as Asus M930W, although on the front case there's only the "M930" name, the device is a tri-band GSM phone (900 / 1800 / 1900 Mhz) that supports EDGE, GPRS, 3G and HSDPA, thus allowing fast data transfers (up to 3.6 Mb per second). As all the latest Asus smartphones, the M930 has a powerful processor, a Marvel PXA27x 520 Mhz one, considerably more powerful than Nokia E90's processor, which only has 330 Mhz. The phone has two displays, an external and an internal one, features touchscreen capabilities and comes with a nice design that allows users to open it at both 90 and 180 degrees. It packs a nice 3.2 Megapixel camera with ...

Google a lansat o noua versiune a aplicatiei “Google Maps for mobile phones” ce include un serviciu denumit “My location”.
